Yesterday, Raleigh locals woke up to a healthy blanket of snow. Some areas had about a foot! Visitors to Raleigh who experience a "snow event" here are usually surprised by how such weather paralyzes the city. Restaurants and stores close and most everyone hunkers down at home, unwilling to brave unsalted roads. The Carolina Hurricanes and the Washington Capitals were scheduled to have a morning skate open to season ticket holders, but it was canceled, much like many other events. However, the Caps were already in town, so it was "Game On" in the evening!
My friends and I decided to brave the roads and make our way to the RBC Center. The main roads were fine, but in true NC style, the side roads were a mess. Thankfully, the RBC Center staff cleared the parking lot. When the Caps are in town, we usually have a full house, but the crowd was scant. I was excited, because the last time we had a "snow event", the Canes played the Blackhawks and we had a great win. The Canes had not won a game against the Caps this season, so I took the snow as an omen.
So much for that. It was a spirited game, but the Canes lost, 2-3. I'm glad I made it out to support the team though. All Star Specials Tonight would like to thank the RBC Staff for doing an awesome job even though they were working with a skeleton crew.
I REALLY hope there's no snow during the weekend of the All Star Game - we need perfect weather for our big hockey weekend!
